Editing your content photos can seem complicated and expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, you don’t even have to pay for photo editing software to make your pictures look professional! Here are a couple of our favorite free photo editing apps.
Snapseed
Recently bought by Google, Snapseed is an entirely free photo editing app. It is compatible with both iOS and Android devices, and it’s great for editing photos quickly and professionally.
Snapseed Features:
- Preset filters.
Snapseed has many different preset options for filtering your photos. It’s super easy to use; swiping up changes the filter, and swiping left to right adjusts the intensity of the effect. Each filter has multiple styles within one mood, with the most impressive being the Grunge filter – there are 1500 different styles under that title. Needless to say, you have a lot to choose from!
- Automatic adjustment.
If you’re looking for a simple adjustment to a photo, you may want to opt for Snapseed’s automatic feature. This setting will improve the color and contrast of your photos according to what the app thinks it needs, saving you time and effort (and frustration).
- Ability to save preferences.
Once you’ve found a cocktail of edits that you love, you’re able to save exactly what changes you’ve made into basically a filter of your own. That way, instead of trying to memorize what you did, you are able to go into your preferences and apply the same edits to any future photos. This feature definitely saves you a lot of time and energy.
- Direct sharing to social media.
Snapseed does not share directly to Instagram yet, but you have the option to share your photos onto your Twitter or Facebook page from the app. This cuts out the middle step of having to actually save the image to your camera roll before posting it.
For an entirely free app, Snapseed has tons to offer! It may take a short period to adjust to the user interface, but it’s smooth sailing from there on out.
VSCO
Formerly known as VSCO Cam, this app is an interesting hybrid between a photo editing app and social media platform; you’re able to create a profile and post your edited photos, which can be great for a business. Compatible with both iOS and Android, this app makes it easy to edit photos with professional quality, straight from your phone.
VSCO Features:
- Preset filters.
Within the app, there are multiple different filters to choose from to alter your photo for a certain mood or vibe. These can be great to ensure consistency across your content photos. There are 10 different free preset filters to choose from, but if you don’t see the right one for you, try using…
- The “Toolkit” feature.
This is where you’ll find your standard photo editing tools. You can adjust the tint or saturation, enhance skin tones, sharpen photos, and perform other similar editing techniques. If you don’t fall in love with any of the preset filters, the toolkit allows you to fine-tune your photos to your liking.
- Upload directly from your camera roll.
VSCO has a built-in camera, but you can also upload and edit photos from your camera roll. The app also supports both JPEG and raw images, so you can rest assured that your photos will come out beautifully regardless of the format.
- “Discover” tab.
The “discover” tab can be used to see other profiles, which means people can stumble across your page. You can repost other accounts’ photos to your page, and if people share your posts, this will increase your reach. By having your photos shared, your business certainly could grow through word of mouth.
The paid version of VSCO includes many more presets and other tools, but the free version still contains everything you need to produce a beautifully edited content photo.
We absolutely love both apps. But if neither of these free photo editing apps tickle your fancy, no worries! We also have a couple of our favorite paid photo editing apps. Better yet, we have some photo editing experts here at Blackwood – let’s work together to make your content photos the best they can be.
