If you’re reading this message, you’re aware that we have a blog.???? Many, many other businesses also maintain their own blogs, posting content on a regular schedule. But why? What do businesses actually gain from writing blogs?

1. Blogs help to organically drive traffic to your website.
Are you familiar with a little thing called SEO? If not, we have a whole blog post dedicated to its magic and why we love it so much in the marketing world. SEO (or search engine optimization) is based on keywords or keyphrases that appear both in your web content and the search engine results.
The more those keywords appear in your blogs and match with the words people put into a search engine, the more your website appears in those search results. That way, people will be more apt to click on your website, thus giving them an insight into your business.
SEO is wonderful because it’s essentially a free way to promote your business. You don’t have to pay for the keywords you’re putting in your blogs or on your website! By publishing blogs, you’re giving yourself more opportunity to show up in search results for a variety of different words and topics.
2. Your blog posts contribute to your credibility as a business.
While we’re talking about acronyms, let’s talk about EAT. (Even if you’re not hungry.) EAT stands for “Expertise, Authority, Trustworthiness,” and it’s a critical acronym to keep in mind when you’re trying to rank higher in Google search results. By maintaining a great blog, you’re showing your audience that you really do know what you’re talking about.

Showing off your expertise in your field establishes trust with your audience; they’ll be more likely to want to have a business relationship with you if you can show them you’ll get the results they’re after. Use your blogs to help facilitate those relationships!

3. Writing blogs opens up another line of communication between you and your audience.
When you publish blogs on your site, you are giving your audience a glimpse into what your business is all about. For example, since we’re a marketing agency, our blog revolves mostly around topics related to marketing and social media. Finding your niche and writing informational, high-quality blog posts shows your audience that not only do you know your stuff, but you’re willing and eager to tell them about it.
By including some kind of call to action in your blogs, you’re encouraging your reader to reach out if they have any questions. The comment section is a great place to have conversations! Along that same vein, if you’re ever reading a blog from someone else’s business, don’t hesitate to comment. Great businesses will be more than happy to engage in a discussion with you. Be that great business for someone else!
4. Blogs help you generate leads and, ultimately, expand your client base.
Statistics have shown that businesses who publish blogs gain 97% more links to their website. This goes into another aspect of SEO, which is backlinks. Basically, backlinks are links that point from one page to another; those linking away from your page are “outbound links” and those pointing to your page are “inbound links.”

You may have noticed that we occasionally link our own blog posts in other blogs (meta, right?); this is another way to increase your SEO ranking. When you publish blogs, you open up the opportunity for other businesses to link your pages on theirs. This, in turn, can help you generate leads when viewers click links directing to your site.
That’s why it’s super important to make sure you’re putting out high-quality blog posts: you want other people to share them around! Your blogs can cover a range of topics related to your business or your industry; find your niche, publish some content, and enjoy the benefits of blogging for your business!
