The only surefire way to drive conversions through your website is to have a compelling call to action. But what qualifies as clickable? There are a lot of things to keep in mind when writing a call to action that people will actually want to say yes to.
What is a call to action?
A call to action, or CTA, is a sentence or phrase that turns your potential client into a loyal customer. There are two parts to it: the one that tells the customer what they should do, and the one that motivates them to do it. Unfortunately, “sign up here” isn’t going to inspire a lot of urgency for people to take action. A good CTA will entice a client quickly and ultimately close the deal.
Give your audience a reason to click.
In order to catch your audience’s attention, you cannot be afraid of being bold. One of the best ways to drive clicks is to begin your CTA with a strong action verb. When you start with an attention-grabbing verb, let the people know what you want them to do before you lose them. Instead of saying “sign up for this,” try something more like, “subscribe today for access to members only resources.” Immediately, you’ve caught the reader’s attention and offered them an incentive. It’s a mutually beneficial transaction now!
Overall, you want to use language that provokes the audience to take an action. Whether you lean towards more of an emotional pull or a more realistic approach, use words that can really persuade your audience to be a part of what’s going on.
Allow room for creativity in your call to action!
Don’t think of calls to action as a formula that you can just plug random words into. While it can be put together structurally, there is so much room for creativity. Switch from a statement to a question (or use an exclamation point!). Little changes can make a big difference, and unique strategies get noticed!
Use numbers when they’re available.
Numbers are a great way to get your audience’s attention. According to the Nielsen Norman Group, studies have proven that numerals catch the reader’s attention more effectively than the written out numbers. Take advantage of this information! If you can use numbers to support the information in your call to action, definitely do it.
