In the editing world, Photoshop is definitely a household name. The software is known for its reputation of fixing most imperfections and issues in photos. It tends to be one of the first programs that editors learn to use, and it continues to deliver the industry standard for photo editing. If you aren’t already a frequent Photoshopper, here’s why you should be.

What is Photoshop?

Photoshop is arguably one of the most recognizable Adobe Cloud programs. You’ve probably heard the phrase, “just Photoshop it out,” and it captures the essence of the software. It is a photo editor, and it’s great for the basics of editing as well as more complicated functions for manipulating images.

What can you use this software for?

This software is well-known for its effectiveness in retouching and editing photos. For example, if one of the people in your content photo has a blemish that they’d prefer not to show in the photo, it’s easy to remove the blemish within Photoshop. Additionally, if there’s a weird bird in the sky or something in the background that would distract from the subject, you are able to edit that imperfection out.

How does Photoshop differ from other Adobe Cloud software?

Photoshop can pretty much be described as a combination of two other Adobe applications, Lightroom and Illustrator. To address the basics, Lightroom is another Adobe photo editing software, and Illustrator is a design program.

With Photoshop, you’re getting the best of both worlds – and then some. It is similar to Lightroom because it has a lot of the same editing functions such as filters and presets, but it also has more detail-oriented functions for retouching and manipulation. It’s also similar to Illustrator in that you can create designs within the program. However, it does not have the capability to create vector images. This results in a more pixelated appearance if you try to resize your design.
